UNH-IOL Announces Two New Fibre Channel Test Suites
As SANBlaze Device Boosts Port-Testing Count From 25 to 250
MAYNARD, MASS. and DURHAM, N.H., Nov. 14, 2006 – The University
of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) is offering scalability
testing for Fibre Channel devices in two new test suites built upon the
capabilities of a stress-testing device from SANBlaze Technology Inc.
SANBlaze, a pioneer in storage emulation solutions, has provided the UNH-IOL
third-party test lab with its VirtuaLUN Fibre Channel Target Emulation
System. The SANBlaze Fibre Channel test device is a RAM-based target emulator
that allows test engineers to quickly and efficiently create and destroy
up to 125 targets through each of its two ports. This capability boosts
the test lab’s scalability testing on Fibre Channel devices from
25 to 250 ports.
The UNH-IOL’s newest Fibre Channel test suite is “Multi-Target
Loop Interoperability,” and is publicly available online
It puts Initiators (HBAs) through their paces and verifies that they can
properly operate on a loop with 125 targets while withstanding various
disruptions to the loop. A second test suite, Multi-Target Fabric Interoperability,
will test the ability of initiators and fabric switches to operate properly
with a large number of targets during various disruptions.
The UNH-IOL has tested Fibre Channel devices since 1991 and contributed
to the development of the SANMark test suites, objective indicators of
how Fibre Channel products perform against reasonable quality and interoperability
standards. The laboratory is developing an extensive Fibre Channel test
bed comprising legacy and current Host Bus Adapters, enclosures, drives,
tapes and switches supported by leading-edge test gear.
Membership in the UNH-IOL’s Fibre Channel Consortium is open to
the industry and entitles companies to as much product testing over the
course of a year as fair scheduling allows. "We are excited to be
working with SANBlaze to further increase the benefits that we offer our
membership,” said Mikkel Hagen, UNH-IOL Fibre Channel senior research
and development engineer. “We expect this tool to generate a great
deal of testing and to provide a wealth of invaluable information for
our member companies."
