Gigamon’s GigaVUE-MP Provides “Best Practice” Out-of-Band Monitoring Network for VoIP

-- Features enable optimal, cost-efficient deployment of voice and data monitoring tools -

San Jose, CA, March 14, 2006 – At Spring VON, Gigamon Systems, a leading provider of data access solutions for out-of-band network monitoring, announced the availability of Version 2.0 of the GigaVUE-MP Data Access Switch for “best practice” VoIP deployment by service providers and large enterprise networks. GigaVUE-MP helps meet the challenge of providing high quality, high volume VoIP service by accommodating the ever-growing monitoring demands on redundant mesh networks. GigaVUE also eliminates the need for multiple distributed tools, in turn saving a significant amount of money and time.

GigaVUE-MP cost-effectively solves the problem of “too many tools and not enough access points” by creating an “out-of-band” monitoring network that brings all critical data to the VoIP analyzer, enabling other tools to share the data view for security or monitoring purposes. GigaVUE-MP aggregates traffic from multiple network segments and access points, separating VoIP from non-VoIP data. It uses hardware packet-based filters and logically divides and maps this aggregated VoIP traffic to multiple VoIP analyzers in order to guarantee optimal traffic load. The entire flow of VoIP calls may be monitored en mass, or it can drill down on a single call.

By filtering, aggregating, and multicasting critical data to support multiple network monitoring tools, GigaVUE-MP enables more flexible network security, monitoring, and troubleshooting while using far fewer and less intrusive tools. This enables network managers to meet the ever more onerous challenges of regulatory compliance, security, application optimization, and availability of today’s enterprise network.

As VoIP becomes the mainstream, users are demanding the same high Quality-of-Service they are accustomed to for traditional phones. While many good VoIP analysis tools are available to monitor, measure and insure the QoS and SLAs, network managers are still plagued by the difficulty of getting the critical data from the many segments of a meshed, massively parallel network to one or more monitoring tools.

Deploying multiple distributed analyzers to cover all the possible paths in redundant asynchronously routed networks is cost prohibitive, and still likely to miss packets or entire calls. Compounding this difficulty is the proliferation of many other security, performance, application, compliance, and forensics tools, each bidding for a view of the same data.

“GigaVUE is becoming the ‘best practice’ tool for out-of-band network monitoring for large scale, mission-critical VoIP and data networks,” said Denny Miu, CEO of Gigamon. “By aggregating and filtering network traffic, GigaVUE saves customers substantial money by eliminating the need for deploying multiple tools across a distributed network.”
