Gigamon Enables Sharing of 10 Gigabit Traffic Among Multiple 1 Gigabit Security and Performance Monitoring Tools

With GigaVUE’s Any-to-Any connectivity, network engineers can freely match 10 Gigabit traffic with 1 Gigabit tools, or 1 Gigabit traffic with 10 Gigabit tools

San Jose, CA, May 1, 2006 -Gigamon Systems, a leading provider of data access solutions for out-of-band network monitoring, today announced that its GigaVUE-MP data-access switch enables multiple 1 Gigabit monitoring tools to easily share traffic from 10 Gigabit networks and conversely, a single 10 Gigabit tool to monitor multiple 1 Gigabit links. GigaVUE now features a new 10 Gigabit GigaLINK Ethernet data card that permits network managers to either monitor 10 Gigabit links or communicate to 10 Gigabit monitoring tools.

GigaLINK acts as a network port, or a tool port, using mapping filters to slice the flow of packets across traffic to multiple 1 Gigabit monitoring tools, making it easy for network managers to utilize these tools to their fullest capability on a 10 Gigabit network. These filters also ensure that each tool gets the packets that it needs to perform its task, and only the packets that it needs. GigaLINK also ensures vastly improved flexibility by providing filtering rules that can be based on predefined templates including MAC or IP source or destination addresses, IP subnets, application ports, and VLAN identification ports.

GigaLINK can also enable a 10 Gigabit tool to monitor multiple 1 Gigabit networks. This is an extension of Gigamon’s philosophy of “Bringing New Life to Your Tools”. With the new GigaLINK feature, network managers can utilize their existing tools regardless of network speed and ensure that they receive the correct data in the format it requires.

“Our new GigaLINK feature provides scalability and extensibility of architecture from 10 Megabit, to 100 Megabit, to 1 Gigabit, to 10 Gigabit all in one box,” said Tom Gallatin, VP of Sales and Marketing for Gigamon. “This enables customers to grow their network effortlessly by utilizing the tools they already have to speed shift without having to resort to purchasing more expensive tools.”

By filtering, aggregating, and multicasting critical data to support multiple network monitoring tools, GigaVUE-MP enables more flexible network security, monitoring, and troubleshooting while using far fewer and less intrusive tools. This enables network managers to meet the ever more onerous challenges of regulatory compliance, security, application optimization, and availability of today’s enterprise network.
