Finisar Empowers UNH InterOperability Lab to Offer SANMark Testing for 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel Devices

UNH IOL Is First Independent Test House to Provide Four Gigabit SANMark Testing

SUNNYVALE, CA and DURHAM, NH, Sep 19, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR), a technology leader for fiber optic components and network test and monitoring systems, and the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), today announced the offering of SANMark testing for 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel products. The UNH-IOL will use Finisar's IFC-5 Fibre Channel Eagle, a tester product capable of a wide array of protocol, emulation, and load testing at 1G, 2G, and 4G data transfer rates, to offer compliance testing to eligible members of the UNH-IOL Fibre Channel Consortium.

The UNH-IOL has tested Fibre Channel devices since 1991 and contributed to the development of the SANMark test suites, objective indicators of how Fibre Channel products perform against reasonable quality and interoperability standards. The laboratory is developing an extensive Fibre Channel test bed comprising legacy and current Host Bus Adapters, enclosures, drives, tapes and switches supported by leading-edge test gear.

"As the leader in comprehensive test solutions for high-speed storage communications, Finisar is pleased to participate with the UNH-IOL Fibre Channel Consortium to enhance vendors' ability to deliver reliable products which are compliant with industry standards," said Chris Cicchetti, marketing director, Finisar. "Our long standing relationship with the IOL Consortium has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the Fibre Channel standard in the marketplace."

Membership in the consortium entitles companies to a full year of product testing. Successfully completing SANMark testing allows companies to use the SANMark logo in their advertising and collateral. Qualified devices are also included on the Fibre Channel Industry Association's SANMark qualified products list.

"Our engineers are extremely experienced and well prepared to take our members' equipment through the testing and logo certification process," said Mikkel Hagen, UNH-IOL Fibre Channel senior research and development engineer. "This will provide a key benefit to our members beyond the already extensive conformance and interoperability testing we provide."
