GEL2 & FEL2 –Ethernet Layer 2+ Network Emulation

The GEL2 and FEL2 Network Emulator provides Advanced Network Emulation for 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet and IP Network Testing.

This system supports all standard Ethernet frame formats (including jumbo packets and larger, up to 16K bytes) and functions at 100% line rate without dropping any packets (regardless of packet size).

The GEL2 & FEL2 functionality can be delivered in an M Series System as an MSGEL2-B or MSFEL2-B Network Emulator. GEL2 & FEL2 network emulation capability can also be combined with other Anue solutions (such as SONET/SDH Delay or Fibre Channel Delay) to create multi-protocol “Combo” systems.

10/100/ Gigabit Delay Emulator

Product Features

DELAY
# Emulates delays that occur during transmission of Ethernet data through optical fiber
* Capable of inserting packet delay in 2 byte (16 ns) increments up to 250 ms1
* Can introduce inter packet gap delay (jitter)
* Can insert framing delay from 0 and 19 bits in 1 bit increment (0.8 ns at 1.25 Gbps)

SELECTION CRITERIA
# Can select packets for impairment based on user programmable offset bytes
* Allows a combination of multiple pattern matches of up to 8 offset bytes for selecting items such as Source Address, Destination Address VLAN tag or user specified
* A maximum of 6 bytes may be matched for each of the eight offset bytes
* The user may program don’t cares within the 6 bytes on a nibble by nibble basis
* Offsets bytes must be located within the first 1000 bytes of the Ethernet packet
* Combination of offset bytes can be used to create multiple selection criteria that are active simultaneously
# The selection can be at regular intervals (every Nth packet) or at randomly distributed intervals (Poisson, Gaussian, Uniform)
# The selection criteria can be applied from one to 65535 times or until disabled by user. Can also specify between 0 and 7 packets after the selected packet to be impaired similar to the selected packet

BER
# GEL2 is capable of injecting bit-errors from 10-15to 10-2 error rates
# Network emulation of loss of signal under user or program control

IMPAIRMENT
# Can create errors on selected packets
* Dropping
* Reordering – selected packet can be reordered randomly within 8 packets
* Duplicating
* Modifying any offset byte
* Corrupt random byte
# Optionally fix the Ethernet CRC
# Multiple network emulation impairments allowed on a single packet
# Different impairments may be applied based upon the selection criteria that matched to select the packet to be impaired
# Impairments are hitless (traffic flow is not interrupted) and can be changed in under approximately100 ms

BANDWIDTH CONTROL
# Bandwidth clamp the traffic to a desired percentage of line rate for network emulation of an overloaded/congested network
# Optionally generate Pause Frames
* Hi water and Low water (generation of XOFF & XON) thresholds are specified by the user in terms of surplus/deficit of bytes.

STATISTICS
# Provides statistics on a real time basis for the following input items:
* Running disparity errors
* Code group errors
* Idle errors
* Missing SOF/EOF
* Packet count
* Data rate
* FCS Errors
# Provides impairment statistics introduced at the output:
* Dropped packets
* Corrupted packets
* Duplicated packets
* Reordered packets
* Packet count
* Data rate

MISC
# Optimized for ease of use:
* Front panel LCD display and controls for limited standalone operation
* Powerful TCL script library enables automated remote testing
* Windows GUI for intuitive/interactive remote control
# Allows remote monitoring and control via Ethernet
# Anue’s Network emulation solution is a cost effective alternative to test beds built with fiber spools and optical amplifiers
# Copper SFP, multi-mode SFP and single-mode SFP are available2
# Rackmountable1 An optional "Delay Doubler" upgrade doubles the maximum delay times.
2 850 nm multi-mode optics are standard on GEL2; 1310 nm single mode optics are optional
