NetWisdom SAN Probe FC

Finisar has two types of SAN Probes that analyze SAN traffic, create metrics, detect faults, and provide the data to the NetWisdom portal. The hardware ProbeFC collects in-band packets from fibre channel links for SAN traffic performance analysis and fault detection. The software ProbeV collects out-of-band SNMP summary data from SAN switches for fabric performance and fault detection.

The ProbeFC provides line rate data collection from fibre channel links at 1 and 2 Gigabits. A ProbeFC monitors one SAN link and collects all FC packets being sent and received. The ProbeFC supports Fabric and Loop SAN Topologies.

ProbeFCs are connected through Finisar's High-density TAPs. The probe gathers all of the transactions at the Initiator/Target/LUN level (host to storage conversations), providing detailed statistics on the SAN's health and performance. These real-time Fibre Channel and SCSI metrics are sent to the NetWisdom Portal every one second for reporting and further analysis.

ProbeFCs provide the most accurate real-time SCSI level monitoring of individual SAN end-device conversations and delivers accurate fibre channel and SCSI metrics at full wire speeds.

Pending Exchange Metrics for an ITL
Pending Exchanges: The number of SCSI exchanges that have been open, but not closed since both the ProbeFC and NetWisdom Portal have been monitoring a link. -1 indicates a reset occurred in this interval. -2 indicates that a valid link is not established so SCSI exchanges can not be determined.
