MC100 XGIG Analyzer Training
XGIG PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This section gives the student an overview of the Xgig analyzer product
and the Xgig product family. Upon completion students are able to:
* Articulate the ways in which an Xgig analyzer may be used in a data
center environment.
XGIG HARDWARE
This section details the hardware components of the Xgig analyzer system.
Upon completion students are able to:
* Identify Xgig blades and explain their use in the Xgig system.
* Identify the components of an Xgig system.
* Identify the Ports of the Finisar system and explain each port's function
including:
o Management Port
o Console Port
o TTL Port
o Cascade Port
* Identify Xgig system LEDs and define their purposes.
* Demonstrate knowledge of multi-function blades, including:
o Demonstrate knowledge of Blade Ports and Blade LEDs
o Demonstrate proper installation of Blades.
o Demonstrate proper removal of Blades.
o Explain licensing for multi-function Blades.
* Demonstrate understanding of Xgig client server relationship for Network
and Standalone environments.
* Explain how to access the Xgig analyzer through a firewall.
* Demonstrate how to setup Xgig in both a Network and a Standalone environment.
* Explain how to cascade Xgig chassis to form a SYNC group.
* Explain the cascade startup sequence.
* Identify the administration and configuration activities which can be
performed over the internet using the Xgig Web Utility.
XGIG SOFTWARE BASICS
This section covers the basics of the software components of the Xgig
analyzer system. Upon completion students are able to:
* Demonstrate the ability to install the Xgig software.
* Verify the Xgig software installation.
* Demonstrate correct usage of Xgig analyzer terminology.
Further sections will investigate each software component individually.
XGIG SOFTWARE - PERFORMANCE MONITOR
This section covers the basics of the Xgig Performance Monitor software.
Upon completion students are able to:
* Articulate the value of Performance Monitor to the user.
* Identify what information is presented, how to view the information
and what rates are presented for each view in Performance Monitor:
o Chart View
o List View
o Meter View
* Demonstrate switching to a different port.
* Identify Status LEDs and their meanings.
* Demonstrate how to access, select and change a SYNC group.
XGIG SOFTWARE - TRACEVIEW
This section covers the basics of the Xgig Traceview software. Upon completion
students are able to:
* Articulate the value of TraceView to the user.
* Display captured data from all available perspectives:
o Histogram
o Traffic Flow
o Frame Content
* Demonstrate the ability to search and filter the data.
* Demonstrate the ability to export and import traces or sections of traces.
* Demonstrate the ability to add, remove and redefine display columns.
* Navigate and view data density through a histogram display of the data.
* Navigate via user defined bookmarks.
* Show embedded protocol values, including errors, as 10-bit values.
XGIG SOFTWARE - TRACE CONTROL
This section covers the basics of the Xgig Trace Control Software. Upon
completion students are able to:
* Aritculate the purpose of Trace Control.
* Identify the modes of operation:
o Configuration, including demonstrating ability to configure a trace
capture.
o Locked
o Unlocked
o Started
* Demonstrate how to filter traffic using pre-defined and user-defined
templates.
XGIG SOFTWARE - EXPERT
This section covers the basics of the Xgig Expert software. Upon completion
students are able to:
* Aritculate the purpose of Expert.
* Demonstrate how to use Report View to find hidden behaviors and failures
within a trace.
* Demonstrate use of the Pending Exchange Report to track open exchanges
between a pair of ports throughout the trace.
* Demonstrate setting a time extent in a trace (zooming in).
* Demonstrate the ability to read the Error Log like a trace.
TROUBLESHOOTING THE ANALYZER
This section discusses common user issues incountered with the analyzer
and how to prevent them.
